Pressure and burn-out in the world of DJ's and partying

In cooperation with ADE

18okt2018 17:00 - 18:30

While the city is preparing for another night of ADE-parties, at SPUI25 we will talk about the other side of continuous partying and the busy lifestyle of DJ’s. We’ll talk about burn-outs and stress in a world that's meant to be about music and fun. Moderator: Rolinde Hoorntje.

Most people heard the sad news of the death of DJ Avicii, for whom the continued stress of his DJ-life became too much. Endless nights, alcohol and drugs, hangovers, the pressure to attend the best parties and to look fabulous, all night long. Why do we feel this incessant need to lose ourselves, no matter the consequences? What's the attraction of these forms of possible self-destruction? At SPUI25 we will explore the pressure that many DJ's and clubbers experience, with a panel-discussion with specialists and a screening of the documentary 'Raupe Nimmersatt' by Leonor von Salisch and Bobbie Roelofs.

Over de sprekers

Leonor von Salisch & Bobbie Roelofs are from Amsterdam and best friends since high school. They decided to make a documentary when Leonor moved to Berlin in 2010 and noticed that the two sides of the party scene are in conflict. Everyone wants to celebrate and create memorable moments, but everything is just temporary... Questioning this topic, they involved Floor, as the main character, who’s embodying the Berlin party-lifestyle and reflecting on her experiences. The documentary developed as a personal side project and will be screened in SPUI25.

Arthur Eaton was trained as a historian and psychologist. He holds a PhD from University College London (UCL), and is currently an editor at Dutch weekly De Groene Amsterdammer.

William Djoko is a well-known DJ. His vibrant appearance shows he's a entertainer par excellence. Without any basic knowledge of the trade he decided to take the plunge as an MC way back. That leap of faith, along with his distinctive voice, formed the stepping stones for the engaging live performances he's known for today. Performances which have earned him spots at every major Dutch festival and some of the most renowned venues around the world. Most of his fellow natives will recognise him as one of Trouw's former longest serving resident DJs. Djoko is one of The Netherlands' most exciting new talents in bass-driven house music at the moment, delivering intelligent house and techno on stalwart labels like Voyage Direct, Tuskegee and Mobilee.
