Kick-off SPUI25 in Spe: The Infinite Frontier. Space Colonization and the Law
In this SPUI25 in Spe kickoff lecture, Frans von der Dunk, Professor of Space Law, will talk about the future of law in space. With this lecture, the junior editioral board celebrates the start of the new academic year.
Space has often been described as the ‘final frontier’, even if literally speaking there is no frontier in outer space - whether final or otherwise. Space colonization may be one of the most exciting prospects facing humankind, but at the same time it presents one of the most daunting issues on how to deal legally with the infinite area of outer space. In this talk Von der Dunk will briefly set out the status of contemporary international and national space law and will than explore the question whether future law should be developed in order to establish a reasonably just, legitimate and predictable environment for long-duration or even permanent human activities.
