De politieke bril van de econoom

In verkiezingstijd wemelt het van de economische analyses, voorspellingen en modellen. Het CPB berekent partijprogramma’s door en cijfers worden in debatten vaak opgebracht als objectieve feiten in een zee van politieke beloften. Maar hoe politiek is de bril van de econoom eigenlijk?

Tijdens deze avond onderzoeken we met economen en politicologen welke politieke keuzes er schuilgaan achter wat op het eerste gezicht harde cijfers lijken? Welke rol spelen economen in het publieke debat wanneer partijen hun programma’s laten doorrekenen – of juist besluiten dat niet te doen? Met onder meer Jasper van Dijk verkennen we de rol van economische interpretaties in verkiezingstijd.

Over de sprekers

Jasper van Dijk is onderzoeksleider en oprichter van het Instituut voor Publieke Economie. Daarnaast is hij promovendus aan de Universiteit Utrecht.

Charan van Krevel is universitair docent aan de Amsterdam School of Economics. Zij is gepromoveerd aan de Radboud Universiteit op het gebied van duurzame economische ontwikkeling, waar ze eerder ook als docent internationale economie en beleid werkte.

Simone Peek (moderator) is journalist en eindredacteur bij de buitenlandredactie van NRC. Ze doet verslag van de Russische oorlog tegen Oekraine.
