Famelab: the Amsterdam heat
In cooperation with UvA Faculties of Science and Medicine
Get ready for fast paced presentations of complex research from all disciplines, string theory to sexual selection, computational learning to the chemistry of Rembrandt’s oil paintings. Whether a contestant or spectator, you’ll enjoy an evening of wild science in digestible chunks.
The UvA faculties of Science and Medicine jointly organize the Amsterdam heat of FameLab 2018, an international competition in science communication for young scientists. This evening the selected contestants take the stage. They will have three minutes to pitch their research – on stage, without slides. A professional jury of scientists and science communication professionals decides: who makes it to the national finals?
Famelab is an initiative of the British Council and has become one of the largest competitions in science communication in the world. In the competition young scientists (aged 21-40) in the natural sciences, technology and medicine take up the challenge to give a lively and creative three-minute pitch of their research topic to a general audience. At universities across almost 30 countries regional heats are organized that lead up to the international finals in the UK in June.
